The article discusses the different standpoint that three Finnish composers Leevi Madetoja, Väinö Raitio and Uuno Klami held in respect of the current of ideas in the early 20th-century French music world as regarded classicism and the modernist endeavours which crossed it. Instead of universalist classification, a context-based examination is proposed
