In this scene Comte de Reynaud gives in to his desire for chocolate (which is here a symbol for enjoying life). At first he starts to destroy the window display of Vianne’s chocolaterie. But while doing that he gets a small peace of chocolate on his lips. He tastes it and from this onwards he starts to binge the chocolate laughing and crying the same time. Finally he falls asleep in the display window.
This scene can be seen as addictive. There is a loss of control: An uncontrollable urge for chocolate as soon as the abstinent gets only the smallest peace of it into his mouth. Moreover he does not seem to be able to control his emotions, as the Comte is crying and laughing and then falls asleep in the display window, cheeks full of chocolate, like a child.
