Abstract: In the Principles of Mathematics Russell sets up a contradiction involving the predicate "not predicable of itself". However, the contradiction is due to Russell´s failing to distinguish properly between the predicate and its relation to itself. That failure also leads to the paradox of classes. Grelling follows suit in his discussion of the predicate "heterological". However, Grelling´s emphasis on meaning gives us a clue how the assumed contradictions are to be resolved. The vast literature on the contradictions does not mention the approach presented here.
