<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="en">In recent years, the well-being and mental health of children and adolescents have raised concerns both in Finland and internationally. This thesis specifically examines the support for the well-being of students with dyslexia in comprehensive schools. Dyslexia is the most common learning difficulty among Finnish children, and it has been found to be associated with lower self-esteem and motivation.

The aim of this thesis is to enhance understanding of how the self-esteem and motivation of students with dyslexia can be supported in comprehensive schools. The study focuses on class teacher students with dyslexia, who provide both personal experience and pedagogical expertise on the subject. Through a qualitative survey, the study investigates the type of support these students have received in comprehensive school and how they have experienced that support. Additionally, it examines how dyslexia is perceived to have affected their self-esteem and motivation, and what factors they consider most important in supporting self-esteem and motivation.

The theoretical framework of the study discusses dyslexia, its support in comprehensive schools, and the dimensions of well-being. It also explores the significance of self-esteem and motivation for students' psychological well-being. The study was conducted as a qualitative survey and the results were analyzed using theory-driven content analysis.

The research results suggest that dyslexia may be associated with lower motivation and self-esteem. Key factors in supporting the self-esteem and motivation of students with dyslexia include early identification, positive feedback, and consideration of individual needs. The results also revealed that not all students who need support have received the necessary assistance in comprehensive school. The thesis aims to provide recommendations on how teachers can better support students with dyslexia, enhancing their self-esteem and motivation throughout their educational journey.</dim:field>
