The main finding was that subordinate clauses were preferred in speech, while temporal substitute constructions were used only occasionally. On the other hand, subordinate clauses were more common than substitute constructions in all text varieties. In this report, I will make a qualitative survey of the use of both types of expression in various text types. I will investigate the use of each such verb that occurs at least twice in temporal substitute constructions for finding out whether the verb should be translated using a temporal substitute construction or a subordinate clause. There is no linguistic rule for choosing between the two alternatives. The only way for finding out preferences for each verb is to investigate the use of each verb in substitute constructions on one hand and in subordinate clauses on the other hand.
