Vera lives with her parents. Her father is a driver and an alcoholic. She falls in love with a student who came from another town. They are going to get married. But the father uses to get drunk and to quarrel after that with the daughter’s potential husband. Finally he hits him with a knife.

The young people don’t want any celebrating but the father insists on a traditional “soviet” ceremony with a lot of guests. Trying to convince her father Vera fills his glass and her husband’s one with vodka. Nevertheless the father is offended.
