The movie tells the story of the childhood and early manhood of Norman and Paul, the sons of a Presbyterian priest. The whole family loves fishing. Whereas Norman is keen on books and studying, Paul takes bigger risks and has gambling debts. In the end Paul got beaten to death.

Paul is in a bar with Neal (his girl-friend’s brother), who he does not like. A drunken woman starts flirting to Neal, and he offers her a drink. Paul leaves.
As the bar is run down and the lady shows the kind of disgusting drunkenness, the woman will be probably considered as an alcoholic.
