Abstract: The Cooler (2003, USA) by Wayne Kramer Main Cast: Alec Baldwin; William H. Macy; Company: Content Film The movie tells the story of Bernie Lootz, who is a ”cooler” in a casino. With his bad karma he calms the winning tables down. The casino boss, Shelly, wants to keep his valuable employee and hires the waitress Natalie to pretend to fall in love with Bernie. The “job” becomes real love and Bernie looses his bad karma: From now on every table he passes by wins. Scene: gambling male adults table games Transgressive 0:49:27-0:51:43: gambling In this scene Bernie’s son is gambling. He has his pregnant (it is only a fake to get money from Bernie) girl-friend with him. Everybody around the table is happy and is delighted about the luck the young “parents” have. But Bernie’s son is using manipulated dices and will get beaten up after the game severely for that. I cannot imagine that someone will consider the shown behaviour as addictive. The gambler and bystanders are happy. Clip: 143
